Mandriva Linux 2006 Core Updates 1 Now Available To Club Members

Mandriva Linux 2006 core updates 1 are now available to Club members, Standard level and above, in the "Download" section in "My Torrents" of the Club. This CD contains several fixes and improvements for hardware support in Mandriva Linux 2006. It is to be used on fresh installs of Mandriva Linux 2006 Powerpack DVD edition: boot from the core updates CD to start the installation, and it will ask for the original Powerpack DVD to complete installation.

Please note: do NOT use the network install function of the core updates CD. Due to a bug that was missed during testing, it will install the unstable Cooker development distribution rather than 2006.

Major changes include:

  • Improved support for Intel 'Napa'-based platforms:
    • Add Intel 945GM support
    • Add CPU hotplug support
    • Add SMP suspend support
    • Add Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG drivers
    • Add S3 & S4 support to AHCI & ata_piix drivers
  • Misc hardware support:
    • Add SATA ICH8 support
    • Add 'Gilgal' ethernet support to Bensley platforms
    • Add nForce 430 support (forcedeth, HDA audio)
    • Update lpfc driver to 8.0.30
    • Update 3w-9xxx to 2.26.02.005 (3ware 9550SX)
  • X.org 6.9.0 final, with the following drivers updates:
    • ATI 8.23.7
    • nVidia 1.0-8756
    • Improved 32-bit 3D acceleration support on x86_64 platforms
  • Fix 3 buffer overflows that could have lead to a crash in the stage1 part of the installer (prior to starting up the graphical installer)
  • Fix dmraid on 64-bit platforms
Release Notes:
  • LSI Logic megaide support currently requires to boot with "pci=noacpi"
  • S4 support on Napa platforms with intel-agp in use only works with kernels i586-up-1GB and i686-up-4GB at this time (non PAE enabled kernels)

Is this CDROM to be used instead of the original Mandriva 2006 Powerpack CD #1 ?

Why not release similar (without nvidia, etc) CDROM to Mandriva 2006 Free Edition users ?

Si tu passe la souris sur le lien "2006" dans la colonne "version", tu verras qu'une version est i586, et l'autre X86_64.. Evidemment cela aurait été plus simple de mettre directement 2006_i586 et 2006_X86_64

As asked above; why are there are two "Mandriva Linux 2006 Core Updates 1" in the downloads? Are these the same file? I would be very grateful if could someone could please clarify.

二つのファイルは同じではありません。 ひとつがi586(32ビット)用で、もう一つがx86_64用です。 PCのアーキテクチャに合ったファイルをダウンロードしてください。

Two file is not same. One for i586(32bit) version, other one for x86_64. You can choose a suitable one for your PCs architecture.

I don't get it . . . what was this supposed to do? I can't see any real difference except that now there's another boot option in LILO. And it tried to install that stupid RealPlayer that doesn't work.

And when it finished it asked for the DVD, which I don't have because I downloaded separate CD ISOs and installed from them.

Mandriva does seem to have a habit of only doing half the job when it comes to these things. If these "Core Updates" are really so important, why not just release a new distro?

The real problem is that too much unwanted software is installed, and there is not enough choice in the installation interface to avoid the things that you don't want.

It seems to me that a single CD-ROM should contain all the information that a new installation requires. The software which manages the installation should ask the user what he or she wants to install and then just download it over the Internet. You can do this with Mandriva with just a floppy, according to what I've read previously, so why do you really need a DVD or a set of CDs?

In all seriousness, in this day and age you should be able to configure everything as you want it at installation time and use some kind of minimal install media. If I just want a system which runs KDE and doesn't use GNOME at all, I don't have a fax so I don't need Hylafax, I don't want Kat and I'm not using an HP printer so why would I need anything like that . . ?

And so on . . .

As I have said before, "OS Bloat" should be a characteristic of Windoze, not Linux. I'm a paying customer, so give me what I want, and not what you think I should want!

s1516102: Were you be able to find the Bit Torrent file that existed in "My Torrents" on the download page? If you found, you can dawnload ISO image via Bit Torrent.

Please try it.

Graver l'image iso puis monter le CD-ROM. Ensuite se loguer en root dans une console et entrer : urpmi.addmedia --distrib --removable://mnt/cdrom/

Faire les mises à jour comme d'habitude.

cette image ISO est pour ceux qui n'ont pas pu installer la PowerPack (remplace le CD1 du PP) et pour ceux qui ont des soucis avec certains composants matériel. Si tu n'es pas dans ce cas, la source Updates suffit amplement

Yes, I was able to download via Bittorrent, but this is not the point. If Mandriva supplies an http/ftp download service, the Isos should be on the ftp/http servers, when their download is announced, shouldn't they?

Yeah, some information and instructions for update would have been nice. It seemed to work for me if booted the CD and ran through the installation as an upgrade to Mandriva 2006 and chose 'none' for the other option (DVD, ftp etc). I'm not sure how much was updated but it looks like the Kernel (extra option in Lilo) was updated, Xorg, ATI/Nvidia driver/modules etc updated sucessfully. I just not sure if this was the proposed way to use it????????

Sigh, This X.org / ATI 8.23.7 combination still doesn't work with my laptop's graphics; ATI Mobility Radeon 9200. Pressing the Test button during the installation configuration actually crashes the instalation!

It's been months now. When will this ever be right again?

les mises à jour c'est d'un compliqué et les telechargements ,meme avec l'hadhésion siver et le club c'est pas de la tarte ,on m'a donné une adresse de ftp dans ma boite mail ! j'y vais jusqu'ala distrib souhaitée et la je fais quoi ?je download 1 par 1 ? et quoi ? je mets ou les md5 ? pour les sauver sur cd simplement avec quel boot pour que je puisse lancer l'install ? quand je cherche un driver .exe pour win je choisi mon driver je clic sur donwload etje le charge avec Kget dans le fichier souhaité . on est pas près de détroner MSoft ! comme repoussoir on fait pas mieux j'ai encore 300 jour pour que vous trouviez des solutions très simple et très fiables et un accès facile au téléchargement 1) on arrive sur le site de mandriva 2)on s'identifie 3)on choisi t la version 4)on clic sur un bouton "download" puisqu'on est franglais la on nous confirme la version, la taille, et une estimation du temps en fonction du type de connection et le serveur mandriva se debrouille pour faire ddu load balancing avec les autres miroirs en fonction de la localisation du client mais pas tout ce bazar ou tout est mélangé . passé ce délai j'arrète le libre et je pirate un Xp je viens d'en refaire un pour un voisin c'est très long et payant mais même si c'est un os de merde qu'il faut toujours defragmenter il n'y à pas besoin de devenir programmeur pour installer un soft !comparativement mandriva Ppack 45 mn avec tout pour ~65E sauf qu'après c'est la croix et la bannière pour faire la mise à jour . j'aimerais bien passer de Cubase sos w98 à Rosegarden sous mandriva linux mais la aussi impossible d'actionner le serveur Jack ? il n'est pas dans la distrib ? je vais insiter mais ça commence à me courrir à la prochaine salut

Ce cd permet d'avoir une mise a jour du kernel d'installation ainsi que d'utilisation (2.6.12-19mdk) pour permettre une meilleur detection du matériel ainsi que des drivers plus récents(ATI, Nvidia...). Vous démarrer avec, on vous demandes ensuite si vous avez d'autres medias, répondez "NON",continuez l'installation avec vos DVDs habituels. Voilà, une 2006 avec l'un des derniers noyau. ;)

Can it be used with the seven Mandriva 2006 Powerpack CDROMs (if PC has no DVD drive for example) too ?

While I really appreciate all the effort Mandriva go to to perform releases it would be really nice if it were possible to avoid all the propriety software. For example I'd really rather not have Acrobat and someone mentioned RealPlayer! No way!

In some ways this makes me want to prefer the free editions, which si ratehr sad.

Then he has to update it as usual. I think this core update is for those who couldn't install 2006 because of the bugs X.org etc.

When I want to have a Distribution with no other Software then such under GPL I'll don't take Mandriva, I'll rather use Debian, Gentoo or the like. I use a commercial Distribution because I like to have everything running out of the box. If there is a choice between GPL and nonfree SW for a certain funtionality, it'll be nice to be asked. Otherwise mys personal interest in a running system is higher than GPL-evangelism.

j'ai essaye et cela ne resoud toujours pas mes problemes d'acceleration graphique sur mon portable acer 5010 par contre la karoraa xgl marche tres bien. he les ptits gars de chez mandrake faudrais p'tete bien se sortir les doigts si vous voulez qu'on renouvelle nos abonnements !!! surtout que le silver c'est pas donné meme en comparaison a du microsoft .

Well, both are just under a 700MB CDROM.

I'm seeding the 2 .torrent (>1GB now) & advise anybody that can do this to keep them available on their Torrent client ;)

Not only RealPlayer, I now discover that I have lost Clamav/Klamav and despite having all of the dependencies sorted, I cannot get it back!

How can I reverse this situation? Aaaarrrrghhhh! >_<

Et si on a installé une version avec les CD...?? Chez moi impossible de continuer l'installation. Je vais être obligé de graver tous les CD sur un seul DVD pour faire mon install.

bonjour, toujour le meme probleme kernel panic apres install du cd 2006 core update1 sur materiel recent asus p5v800-mx intel celeron D 64 bits sata +raid ne trouve pas vmlinuz au boot malgré bidouillage grub et lilo pour le chemin hda. par contre aucun probleme avec fc5 en 2.6.15 et kubuntu 2.6.15 et suse 10.1 2.6.16 donc il faudrait une update mandriva core en 2.6.16 comment faire la mise a jour du kernel si vous ne pouvez meme pas demarrer en console! je suis membre club standart tres déçus d'etre obligé de touner sous une des autres distributions qui vu leurs qualités .... font réfléchir!
