Changes to packages in PowerPack and PowerPack+ for 2006

Published by awilliamson on Thursday, October 6 2005 @ 10:36:39 CEST

The selection of packages in PowerPack and PowerPack+ for the Mandriva Linux 2006 release will be slightly changed.

In order to further differentiate the PowerPack and PowerPack+ products, most non-essential servers have been removed from the PowerPack discs. This includes, for instance, postgresql. The list of servers that will retained in PowerPack is:

MySQL apache openssh-server samba-server bind cups

and other servers necessary for important functionality (e.g. postfix).

In practice, most Club members (Silver and below) cannot download PowerPack+, so you will no longer be able to install these servers direct from the pack available for you to download. However, all the servers in question are free software, which means that they will of course be present on the public FTP mirrors for 2006, and you will easily be able to install them via urpmi. When the public FTP mirrors go up (the current planned date is October 13th), we will update the Club urpmi mirror finder to make it easy for you to set up urpmi media for 2006.
