Mandriva One released to Mandriva Club members The new edition of Mandriva Linux, Mandriva One, has now been released to Mandriva Club members! Mandriva One 2006 is a live CD based on the latest updated Mandriva Linux 2006, but it has a special feature: with a simple wizard, you can install Mandriva One to your hard disk and use it as a full system! You can then add packages to it with urpmi or rpmdrake just like a normal installation of Mandriva Linux 2006. Mandriva One is the ideal way to test out Linux on new computers or to pass on to your friends to get them interested in Mandriva, and if it works, it can be installed right away with no need to download a separate installable version. Mandriva One comes in four editions each containing a separate set of languages (English is present on all editions), as all the dozens of languages Mandriva supports would not fit on a single CD. In addition to getting exclusive early access to Mandriva One, Club members get a special Club edition of the Americas / Western Europe Mandriva One, which adds proprietary drivers, firmware and software (like the Nvidia and ATI graphics card drivers, RealPlayer and Flash) to the range of free and open source software available on the free editions of Mandriva One. If you're not a Club member yet, sign up now and you can download Mandriva One 2006 today!

Announcing Mandriva Kiosk Mandriva Kiosk is an innovative new service allowing Mandriva Linux users easily to retrieve and install major pieces of software for their system as coherent 'bundles' of packages. Integrating with the Mandriva Online update notification service and the Mandriva Club website, Mandriva Kiosk will allow users to browse available bundles from an easy to use website which will be personalised based on recommendations from Mandriva and the choices of other Club members. Once the user decides on a bundle, it can be installed with a single click. A first version of Mandriva Kiosk will soon be available for Silver and above Club members, containing four bundles - GNOME 2.12, KDE 3.5, OpenOffice.org 2.0.2 and Firefox and Thunderbird 1.5. Later, more bundles will added, and non-Club members will be able to subscribe to Mandriva Kiosk separately (Silver and above Club members will continue to enjoy access as a benefit of their Club membership). You can read more about Mandriva Kiosk in this press release, which also includes information on Mandriva One.

OpenOffice 2.0.2 available for Mandriva Club members Hot on the heels of the release of OpenOffice.org 2.0.2, official Mandriva packages are available exclusively for Mandriva Club members. If you're a member of the Mandriva Club, you can get the packages from the "Club software" media: log in to the Club, go to the "Downloads" section and click on "Club open-source applications" for instructions on adding this media, then you can use rpmdrake or urpmi to install the openoffice.org2 package. You can also install openoffice.org2-gnome for GNOME integration or openoffice.org2-kde for KDE integration: these packages make the toolbars and many dialog boxes match your desktop environment. If you're not a Club member yet, sign up now to access these packages!

Mandriva and Supinfo team up to promote free software Supinfo is a leading French software engineering college. Together with Mandriva, Supinfo held open days at all of its eleven campuses across France on March 19th to promote free software and Linux. At each event, there were conferences and presentations in the morning, and practical demonstrations of Mandriva and other free software in the afternoon. Visitors were able to buy discounted copies of Mandriva Linux and other software. The open days were held to mark the signing of a broader partnership between Mandriva and Supinfo six months ago, a partnership which was conceived in order to develop an official certification of Mandriva Linux expertise, the MCU (Mandriva Certificate for advanced Users). This certification will be available later in 2006. The open days were announced in this article on the Mandriva Club.

Call for articles for Mandriva Linux Inside and CWN Regular readers will remember that the first issue of Mandriva Linux Inside, a new e-magazine aimed at the Mandriva Linux community incorporating the CWN section covering Cooker news, was released earlier this year. We are now putting together the next issue of Mandriva Linux Inside and CWN, and we'd love to include as much news and opinion as possible from the Mandriva community! If there's anything Mandriva-related you'd like to bring to the attention of the whole Mandriva community, please submit an article. There's no strict limits for the length, topic or style of articles, so don't worry! We can also edit articles for language and style, so even if you're not confident writing in English, send us your ideas and we'll help turn them into an article. If your topic is strictly related to Mandriva Cooker and the development of Mandriva Linux 2007, please send it to Warly, the editor of the CWN section, at warly AT mandriva DOT com. If your topic is anything else, please send it to Adam Williamson at awilliamson AT mandriva DOT com.
