Digg!

Various information is current circulating regarding the availability of Mandriva Linux 2006, particularly in the Club forums. Not all this information is completely accurate.

Club members will be the first people able to download to Mandriva Linux 2006 by Bittorrent and dedicated FTP / HTTP access. Store preorders and the Store download version will not be available until later.

When will Mandriva Linux 2006 be available for Club members? About ten days from now! Warm up your burners! ;)

bonjour, mandriva 2006 fonctionne très bien jusqu'à présent .... éclatez-vous!

salebete | 23.09.2005 at 08:13 AM

Packthead | 23.09.2005 at 08:29 PM

ourcraft | 23.09.2005 at 08:50 PM
I translated this to english and it's gone so I'm wondering whaas'up?

imonlinux | 23.09.2005 at 10:22 PM
Many information circulates in this moment as for the availability of Mandriva Linux 2006, on the forums of discussions of the club in particular. All this information is not inevitably exact:) The members of the club will have primeure to download via bittorrent, dedicated accesses HTTP and accesses ftp Mandriva Linux 2006. The pre orders on blind or versions in paying remote loading on blind also will only come much later. When will it be available for the members of the club? From here ten days! Make heat your engravers, Ca will not delay!

pirnaver | 24.09.2005 at 10:53 AM
Who benifits from this ten days delay?

Packthead | 24.09.2005 at 06:20 PM
???

salebete | 24.09.2005 at 07:05 PM
Milles excuses, j'ai du mal lire. A une prochaine

pirnaver | 24.09.2005 at 07:23 PM
It is a simple questions.

CDs / DVDs were made ~ 4 days ago. Why is delaying release to club members a good thing?

Will Mandriva sell more packs or something?

Attention 2006 RC2 régresse gravement voir mon bug 12196 commentaire 16

newimr | 25.09.2005 at 12:09 AM
Technical problems is the reason. Maybe they are readying some ftps?

yoho | 25.09.2005 at 08:43 AM

yoho | 25.09.2005 at 08:48 AM
Probably. I think some packages are being fixed and will be availabe as updates right when 2006 is out (kat, for instance).

b | 25.09.2005 at 12:52 PM
Some masters were redone (see wiki), that could have brought delays.

jpmasius | 25.09.2005 at 02:59 PM
A bug appeared in RC2, which was not present in RC1 and Beta2.

The icons on the desk and inside the koqueror window appear on the screen at a wrong place; not above the text related to.

This bug is probably minor, but is very disappointing

yoho | 26.09.2005 at 06:51 AM

Diwann | 26.09.2005 at 02:47 PM
je l'ai rajoutté après ton commentaire ;)

ourcraft | 26.09.2005 at 05:50 PM
There is a problem. I translated and confirmed that I translated this story into english, and it does not appear. What appears is the original French but with an American/British flag icon.

I do not need the translation, I don't need anything, I'm trying to let Mandriva know about a problem.

This next bit yoho 26/09/2005 06:51:31

Plutôt une question pour le forum phpBB ça while in french is given the same AmerBrit icon. Happy bug hunting.

Rick_Kunath | 27.09.2005 at 02:21 PM
Just to be clear on the upcoming release...

Will this be a Club release, to be followed shortly by an Official release, or is there to be only one Club/Official release (the release coming in about 10 days)?

In other words, are we going to continue with the Club release followed by an Official release, or are we moving to one unified Official release now?

awilliamson | 27.09.2005 at 07:30 PM
It's all the same release.

There was a bug with the article / translation system (I was trying to translate the article, too...) - it's fixed now.

There's always a 'delay' between the final ISOs being done and it being released anywhere. The final ISOs have to be validated, FTP trees have to be prepared, bittorrents generated etc. Additionally, the ISOs were in fact re-done when some late bugs were found.

ourcraft | 28.09.2005 at 04:26 PM
"There was a bug with the article / translation system (I was trying to translate the article, too...) - it's fixed now."

Thanks for the reply, the extra clarifications and the giddy anticipation of a new mandy.

koriordan | 29.09.2005 at 05:54 PM
Hope it's out by next Monday, starting in a new department in work with new PC and would be great to be able to install Mandriva 2006 straight away on it :)

yoho | 30.09.2005 at 07:29 AM
It looks like early seeders already have it today, so yes, by next monday it will probably be available

edtandi | 30.09.2005 at 06:36 PM
In my opinion, 2006 is not yet ready. There is a major bug in Xorg 6.9-1.cvs20050915.2mdk.i586, which makes it unusable on Neomagic chipsets (mostly on portables). I hope Xorg gets reverted back to 6.8.x (which works) before release.

anne | 02.10.2005 at 10:56 PM
Well it's 10 days, and I see no Bit Torrent links for 2006 - not that Bit torrent is all that fast for me (50KB/s), I'm behind a fire wall that I am not allowed to change the seetings on - nor do I see any FTP of HTTP links.

Reiver_Fluffi | 03.10.2005 at 01:38 PM
Well not quite then, but it certainly is now!

Let me see, the orginal plan.

Torrents to be available 10 days from this article, posted on the 22nd Sep 05! *Its now exactly ten days from that announcement!

Ergo

Where are the torrents? I think you will find that we have been patient enough, now lets get on with it!

epertinez | 03.10.2005 at 01:44 PM
Came on people, if the torrents are not going to be out today, at least tell us how long do we ave to wait!!

mcordero | 03.10.2005 at 08:01 PM
Torrents anyone? It's 11 days since anouncement and there is still no torrent for 2006…

dmcdonald | 03.10.2005 at 10:29 PM
The mandrivalinux wiki says October 6th: http://qa.mandriva.com/twiki/bin/view/Main/MandrivaLinux2006

sduane | 03.10.2005 at 11:26 PM
Can someone please explain the "early seeders" idea? I thought Bit Torrent was supposed to scale well: the bigger the swarm the faster downloads go. Distribution to the "early seeders" seems to defeat that good scaling. This closed group apparently got the files on 29 Sep (eg http://www.warpedsystems.sk.ca/article.php?story=20050929223113968&mode=print ), so that everyone else has to wait a week (until 6 Oct).

Feels a bit like failing to connect to a busy FTP server if you ask me…

Caudovittatus | 04.10.2005 at 10:40 AM
Is it coincidence that that's the same day that OpenSUSE will have its first release?

epertinez | 04.10.2005 at 10:44 AM
It is easy. Without early seeders the maximum download rate would be the same that the maximum upload rate and that's good for noone.

sduane | 04.10.2005 at 01:30 PM
Currently, the download rate is zero. Who does that benefit?

Salut a tous ,CHARLES

yoho | 04.10.2005 at 09:58 PM
They did this to avoid people complaining about slow torrents. Now users complain because they get the release a few days after early seeders. Funny :)

sduane | 05.10.2005 at 12:41 AM
What's funny is that so few seem to understand how Bit Torrent works, Mandriva included.

Convincing seeds to stay online for longer than they otherwise would is (obviously) good. Placing artificial restrictions on the growth of a swarm is, simply, bad - it reduces the total upload bandwidth available.

Consider the two options: 1) Initial BT swarm limited to early seeders; 7 days later, the swarm is opened up to the whole club; 2) BT swarm is open to the whole club from the start; and assume that the behaviour of seeds is the same in each case. (For example, if Jane is an early seeder in (1) and has agreed to stay online for 14 days, then she would stay online for 14 days in (2) also.)

It seems clear enough to me that the time taken for the swarm to achieve N completed downloads is always less in case (2) than in case (1). Whatever N.

Something to remember for Mandriva 2007, I suppose.

longdead | 05.10.2005 at 08:44 AM
in the past I kept seeding till i hit 300% share ratio, now that they let me in a few days early as an early seeder i plan on hitting at least 1000% or one month of seeding which ever occurs last (for example if i hit 1000% in four days, i will keep seeding till i hit 30 days)

tgraupmann | 06.10.2005 at 06:44 AM
Are we there yet? Will Mandriva 2006 be ready Friday?

Michal_Laclavik_58 | 06.10.2005 at 09:27 AM
6th is here, torrents are… stil not here :-( Well, this was surely the last time I've paid for club membership. I'm going to other distro.

Raymond_Gilis_336 | 06.10.2005 at 09:33 AM
Well i'm starting to think about changing too.

koriordan | 06.10.2005 at 01:09 PM
It's a bit rediculous. It seems like the files are good to go, they're just holding off the announcement until www.mandriva.org and www.mandriva.com are sorted out.

October 13th still seems to be the release date for the public mirrors, as far as I remember, torrents are supposed to be out a week before that.

dmcdonald | 06.10.2005 at 02:46 PM
If patches were going to be maintained for LE2005, that would be one thing. But there is no reason for me to deploy more LE2005 boxes if 2006 is going to be the only supported release. So, I'm holding up deployment of about 6 servers waiting on this release that appears to never be coming....

I've got a 100mb/s connection to the internet all primed for bittorrent… when do we get to start?

pascal_joly | 06.10.2005 at 03:36 PM
