Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring Beta 2 "Wei" released

#includeResource("Skel.ArticleHeader")

The second beta of Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring, codenamed "Wei", is now available from all mirrors which carry the /devel tree. You'll find it in /devel/iso/2007.1. Currently the traditional installer-based Free DVD build is available with the filename mandriva-linux-2007.1-free-wei.i586.iso . The Free CD images will follow shortly.

This is the first build by a new build manager following the departure of Warly, so there may be slightly more issues than usual. Please be patient, and let us know about any problems you run into.

You can read more about this build on the wiki.

Looks great. Works very well for a beta, only minor things that bother me so far. Looks like 2007.1 will be a solid release. BTW. digg this story to spread the news: http://digg.com/linux_unix/Mandriva_Linux_2007_Spring_Beta_2_Wei_released/who

I agree - it is really nice. It almost seems better than 2007.0 already, and most of my hardware works perfectly. I love the new wallpaper as well - very pretty.

My big hope is that the final will perform a flawless upgrade with an installed 2007. Fingers crossed but I've never had a flawless upgrade yet, maybe 2007 to 2007.1 will be a first!

So no x86_64 release?

awilliamson | 05.03.2007 at 02:56 AM
The Free ISO should be dual arch - it'll install x86-64 if you have the appropriate CPU.

In which case, why are there no 64bit packages to be seen on the list and wei-disk?

I realise this is wayyyyy too premature to suggest, but I hope that the 2007.1 Flash product will be accelerated and co-released with the DVD. I also urge Mandriva to use an 8GB Flash Mem, minimum. Otherwise, 2007.1 is looking fantastic as others have stated. This is the solid development that Mandriva has needed since things tailed off around 9.0.
