As with the installed distro, I only wish I could get the latest versions of Firefox, KOffice, and OpenOffice. They're not minor packages at all.

(Don't get me wrong, this looks like another knock-out success from Mandriva. Even though Mdv2007 boots great from the CD, I want to save my work and my settings and it's just too inconvenient to use both a CD and USB key. I just want to have the latest/greatest of the big three.)

Question que j'aime bien :

est-il possible de mettre à jour les logiciels et le système via rpmdrake après avoir démarré sur la clé et être connecté sur Internet ?

Question that I like :

Can we update the softwares, and the system thanks to rpmdrake once the system has been loaded and we're connected to Internet ?

scalpo | 06.12.2006 at 04:25 PM

Yes you can install new apps using rpmdrake, you can also update your 2007 system.

I think its just absolutely brilliant!

I can see it being very useful in a professional context, eg. presentations. demos, porting ones work etc. AND,

It'd be great for Cookers who would not have to keep burning latest Cooker snapshot CD-ROMS and tossing them out again a few weeks later :)

I think this is a good product yes. The french Google news is talking about this Mandriva Flash: http://news.google.fr/nwshp?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=fr&tab=wn&q=

looking forward to get mine: Any word on what filesystem is it using? can I safely save any configs that I do on the system? I other words, does it suffer from any of the shortcomings that other linuxes on a pendrive (like, say, Slax) suffer?

Just wondering why your not using the latest beta Flash from Adobe? Flash 7.0 is incompatible with many websites such as Youtube.

I have not run into any issues using the beta, even Comcast's The Fan works well.

awilliamson | 07.12.2006 at 09:42 PM
Firefox 2.0 landed on Cooker recently, I believe the plan is to move 2007 to the 2.0 branch when 2.0.1 is released, via an official update (which you will be able to install on Flash just like on other editions). I think Giuseppe wants to do OO.o 2.0.4 as a backport for 2007 as well, but I'll have to check with him for the latest on that.

awilliamson | 07.12.2006 at 09:42 PM
Yes (although space is not unlimited, of course).

awilliamson | 07.12.2006 at 09:44 PM
Filesystem is FAT32 throughout (so you can read it from other OSes). More details here: http://mdv.vmlinuz.ca/Releases/Mandriva/Flash/FAQ

awilliamson | 07.12.2006 at 09:44 PM
Because it's a beta...we don't generally ship betas of commercial stuff, also I think there may be licensing problems there.

John_P_Layt | 09.12.2006 at 08:04 PM
I already have a 4Gb flash drive, and I already have Mdv2007, so the obvious question is can I do this for myself? Will this be made available through the club?

John_P_Layt | 09.12.2006 at 08:31 PM
Another related q I don't see in the FAQ, if I screw up the install on the key (e.g. accidental rm -rf * or install bad packages), I assume there a restore or re-install method available? Which would be the same process to install on my own key?

hamutaro | 10.12.2006 at 08:31 AM
What about KOffice? Could somebody please do 1.6.1?

fabienbelmonte | 10.12.2006 at 11:50 AM

fabienbelmonte | 10.12.2006 at 11:57 AM

dupin | 16.12.2006 at 08:34 PM

gnemmi | 17.12.2006 at 09:07 PM
That´d be great .. specially if you take into consideration that Mandriva packs koffice 1.5.91 and that koffice 1.6.1 is mainly a bug fix release.

Salutations.
