Aquellos que hayan visto el reciente anuncio de la planificación del lanzamiento de Mandriva Linux 2009 se pueden estar preguntando sobre el estado de Alfa 1, que estaba prevista para su lanzamiento al público el 25 de junio. Debido a algunos problemas importantes de esta versión relacionados con X.org, la migración KDE 3 a KDE 4, y la generación de imágenes de la One, hemos decidido no hacer público el lanzamiento de Alfa 1. Si hubiéramos esperado a resolver estos problemas antes de publicar Alfa 1, habría salido sólo unos pocos días antes de Alfa 2, no dejando tiempo suficiente para pruebas en condiciones. Por tanto, Alfa 1 existirá sólo como una versión interna, y no se hará pública. La primera versión previa pública de Mandriva Linux 2009 será ahora Alpha 2, que se publicará, de acuerdo con el plan anunciado, el 10 de julio.

Mandriva Linux 2009 comes a step closer to reality today with the unveiling of the release schedule and the technical specifications. All this information can be found on the Mandriva Linux 2009 Development page on the Mandriva Wiki. The schedule includes two alphas, two betas, and two release candidates, prior to the final release in early October 2008. The first alpha release is scheduled for June 25th - just a week away. The technical specifications are based on input from both the community and Mandriva staff, with each item assigned to a specific maintainer and given a priority level. 2008 marca el décimo aniversario de Mandriva - la empresa y la distribución. La comunidad Mandriva lo celebró a lo grande durante el último fin de semana de mayo, con una fiesta en la Torre Eiffel de París en la que estuvieron presentes la mayoría de la plantilla, antiguos empleados, miembros de la comunidad y socios. También hubo un picnic cubierto, y la ya tradicional fiesta "Dance Dance Revolution". El famoso sitio de noticias francés Infos du Net escribió sobre este acontecimiento: se puede leer una traducción del artículo al inglés aquí. New reviews of Mandriva Linux 2008 Spring appeared on two high-profile sites recently. ZDnet noted that "Mandriva Linux is popular with developers and enthusiasts, and there’s a thriving community ready and able to help with problems," and concluded "Overall we liked what we saw. Mandriva Linux 2008 Spring may not be the best distro for the newcomer moving over from Windows, but if you're used to the way Linux works and want to try something different, give it a try." Linux.com praised the hardware support and the Control Center, and declared that "despite a few minor glitches, after several weeks of testing the two Mandriva flavors, I have finally come across a distro that gives you the best of the GNU/Linux and proprietary worlds in terms of ease of use, range of software, and stability on hardware that ranges from old Celerons to newer multi-core machines."
