Using your new Compiz desktop

IMPORTANT LINKS: More Info on Compiz

Here are some of the common controls and shortcuts for the AIGLX/XLG Compiz 3D desktop environment:

  • Mouse to top-right corner - Expose-like view all windows on viewport (current desktop) and select required window
  • alt+tab - Switch between windows on current viewport
  • ctrl+alt+tab - Switch between windows on ALL viewports
  • ctrl+alt+down arrow, then left & right arrows - Slideshow of Viewports
  • ctrl+alt+left/right arrow - Switch to viewport on left/right
  • ctrl+alt+drag mouse - Move around all viewports ie. 3D cube view
  • shift+F9 - press once to start & again to stop - ripple (like rain on a lake)
  • shift+F10 - press once to start & again to stop - slow motion
  • ctrl+alt+shift+left/right arrow - Move active application window to next viewport
  • alt+mouse scroll wheel - Adjust the transparency of the active application window
  • ctrl+shift+drag window frame with mouse - Activates "snappy" windows mode. The window frame "sticks" to tool bars, desktop borders and other window frames.
  • Peel the corners of a maximized window to see the windows and desktop behind by clicking and dragging any part of the maximized window frame and corners towards the center of the screen. The page "peels" away to expose what is behind. Release the mouse button and the window snaps back into place. Quickly drag the window frame/corner past the center point of the screen and the window will "un-maximize" (aka Restore) automatically.
  • You can get the Zoom feature to work by assigning a short cut key to it's function in the Compliz set-up tool. I set mine to activate when press ctrl+alt+z.

Is there a zoom control in mandriva's version?

Not that I've been able to find.

I updated the wiki page to reflect what I found regarding Compiz and desktop zooming.

How do I get more than four desktops? I had 8 once before but forgot how I did it. I am using beryl but think the shortcut would be the same. Gary
