A very different way.... but also let's you decide what you want - and how you want - to use the product you "buy" from them. They even let you take their product and make it in to something else to re-distribute yourself (ie: PCLinuxOS and ALTLinux for example). So, Mandriva may be a corporation, but as you say, a very different corporation.
