Mandriva One 2007.0 Gaming DVD

#includeResource("Skel.ArticleHeader")

To bring more fun in the Club, a new live system is available (in your "My Torrents" page): a Mandriva gaming release with the greatests games from Mandriva repositories, with only free software games!

It includes excellent 3D first person shooters, such as OpenArena and Nexuiz, real-time startegy games (Battle For Wesnoth, Glest), and of course, the best of enhanced classics: Frozen Bubble with a network mode. If you are more into racing, don't forget to try Torcs and Vdrift, or the arcade games ManiaDrive and X-Moto.

Of course, the reference FlightGear simulator will allow you to perfect your pilot skills. For (yellow) submarines fanatics who prefer manoeuvring U-Boats, even the Danger Deep submarine simulator is included.

The youngest Club members will appreciate the fun yet educative programs in the GCompris suite, and the Ri-Li train game.

Dancers won't miss the StepMania DDR simulator, it can even use console games pads (using an USB adapter), and it's bundled with a free songs pack :-)

Technically speaking, this live system is a 3.2G DVD for the i586 platform (it will run fine on x86_64 systems as well). It's based on Mandriva One 2007.0, so it can be installed to hard disk using the "live install" feature. It also includes the 3D desktops technologies (AIGLX and Xgl), but it's better not to activate them when running 3D-intensive games.

Here's the complete list of the games included on this live DVD:

I expect it must be wonderful. Except that it refuses to start the xserver on a box with an ati card.....

Olivier Blin | 22.01.2007 at 04:36 PM
Did previous Mandriva One 2007.0 start fine on your computer? It's an ATI X700 card, right? These cards may not be discovered and configured correctly at boot. A workaround is to log as root in a console (no password), and to run XFdrake to select the fglrx driver.

Yes, you got me bang to rights, it is the X700 card. But I have never been able to get mandriva One 2007.0 to work with it, games or no games. And however hard I try XFdrake returns with endless errors when I try to choose a driver manually. Sigh.............

Great product!

It's more interesting having this kind of club distributions (metisse version included) than the versions were offered before.

The future of Mandriva Linux seems really interesting and attractive right now.

Congratulations!

I too like this direction for an offering for Mandriva Club members. Why not make a complete Mandriva Linux distribution centered specifically around gaming. Make it 2 or more DVDs if needed which have ALL open source available games and whatever else could be included short of commercial like what was done for FlatOut recently. I personnaly know of several perople who would switch to Linux and Mandriva if some focus on gaming was made. They would even pay to play if good games would just work on Mandriva :)

I second that. I have had bittorrent running since both metissa and game were out and I have experienced great traffic on both. Give us more of that and especially gaming.

On opposite to HansJMicheelsen I have had bittorrent running since both metissa and game were out and I haven't seen many leechers (after a week Metisse has got a 0,26/1 ratio, & Gaming a 0,46/1 :-( )

Since it works pretty much as well as standard MDV 2007 One, isn't it time to release the torrent public (--> Digg, linuxtracker, ..) ?

kozaki | 03.02.2007 at 05:57 PM
